I love fruitcake. I truly do and I refuse to believe that I'm in the minority. My mother used to make it and hers was absolutely delicious...Lots more nuts than fruit and a ritualistic soaking in single malt every third day for 2 weeks. Then we'd wrap it with a a lovely bow and enclose a recipe for a simple hard sauce to serve it with. I adore plum pudding as well and every year that my nephew lived in London he'd bring one home...set it alight, douse it with hard sauce and make a wish for an abundant New Year!
